JULY 21, 2003
weekend was great! I Drove down to my friend's place in Lynchburg.
We spent a lot of time just chilling. The only "touristy" thing
that we did was to visit Poplar
Forest. It wasn't worth the three bucks we paid for entry. I don't
recommend it. We also watched Chicago.
Nice. We spent the Saturday afternoon playing Monopoly.
was a good eleven years since I had played Monopoly.
I remember very well that I had created a big scene at India Hobby Center in
Chennai, when my dad was buying me a Monopoly set. I just didn't want a
board game. I am not very sure what I was lobbying for instead, but I
remember I was almost in tears. I was in 6th grade then, so I suppose its
ok! I loved it from the very first game. It became my favourite board game
instantly. I was so obsessed with it that I went on to create my own set,
based on Chennai.
I think we called it "Tycoon".
Monopoly set was the British version with the city London on the board.
Mayfair, Oxford St., Piccadilly, Whitehall, King Cross Station etc. The one
I played last weekend was the Washington DC version. I suppose this is the
original Charles Darrow version marketed by Parker Brothers. Check out the
Monopoly website for lots of interesting
facts about the game. I don't know how many different versions there
are, but Virginia Tech has its own! Techopoly!
