EVENING AT THE FAIR -

is undoubtedly the world capital of theme parks. Its venerable
list of park options includes some of the most sought after recreation
destinations in the country, and quite possibly, in the whole world. I
wonder what chance a moving, make-shift, "all rides under $2"
carnival stands, in this high competition family entertainment market? I am
not really sure, but I am guessing they are a dwindling business.
every now and then, I come across one of these "mobile" fairs in
vacant lots in the greater Orlando area. I decided to visit one such setup
in Altamonte Springs. What drew me there was the tell tale sign of any fair
or theme park, the Ferris
Wheel! No, I wasn't interested in a ride, but the photo opportunity was
quite appealing. You can see my pictures here.

photo expedition was very different. It was the first time I was questioned
by a cop! Of course I don't blame him ... after all I was carrying my
extended tripod and was moving rather inconspicuously, in the shadows and
away from other people. My intention was only to keep the ambient light low
in my long exposures, but the law might have thought otherwise. He let me go
on after making absolutely sure that I wasn't up to anything fishy.
