OLD POINT LOMA
LIGHTHOUSE -
Aug 13, 2009
Cabrillo
National Monument, where the (pictured) Old Point Loma Lighthouse is
located is San Diego's only NPS managed site. It is a Plymouth Rock of
sorts, the site marking the first landing of Europeans on the Pacific
Coast. Of course, there isn't all that much to see and do here. Yet the
site is interesting in its own way. I make it a point to use my
multi-agency America is Beautiful pass and take guests visiting me.
The Bayside Trail offers some of the best views of San Diego's
downtown. In the winter months one can try spotting
Gray Whales migrating back north. The Rangers too make the
trip interesting by narrating Cabrillo's story, with props and such.
All
in all, it makes for an interesting afternoon in fine San
Diego!
